Household sewing machine HZL-DX7A single sewing machine sews stitches of many kinds such as straight stitches, zig-zag stitches, decorative stitches, character stitches, and buttonholes. Some sewing machines have a function to adjust thread tension automatically together with useful reverse-stitch and automatic thread-trimming functions operable by the press of a single button.

I was a little concerned that this would be like a cheap toy. However, after watching unboxing reviews online I was hopeful that this would be a pretty decent quality. I wasn't looking for professional quality just something decent enough to suit my crafting needs on occasion. I haven't used a sewing machine in decades so I wanted something I could start over with, without spending a lot if I decided not to keep up with it.
Unfortunately, my experience I had with this sewing machine is making me feel like I've wasted my money. The first needle broke just testing it out with the sample fabric, literally in the first 30 seconds. I replaced the needle and attempted to make a face mask out of an old t-shirt. (I had made one before but had to sew it by hand which lead me to making this purchase in the first place. I wanted to make more for myself without taxing my hands.) The second needle broke halfway through the project and the third broke literally on the last stitch. (The description said it came with 4 needle but there were only 3.)
I don't know if it was my lack of skill, the machine, or the fabric but this project ended up being far from simple. (I had less trouble sewing the first mask by hand.) First off you have no control over the speed using the pedal. So if you want to go slow on a tricky part you have to do it manually. Using the switch makes it difficult to guide the fabric and still be able to stop the machine when you need to. Second I had to wrap the thread around my finger at the beginning or the thread would pull back through the needle, requiring it to be re-thread again. This happened several times. Very Annoying! Especially when your adult size fingers barely fit in the tight space where the needle is and you have bad eyes and can hardly see what you're doing. I had a lot of trouble keeping the stitches straight or where they should be. The machine didn't pull the fabric straight through. I would slide over right to left making the stitches look like crap or worse completely miss the fabric.
Although my first experience was awful I haven't decided to return this product. I think I will give it another try with different fabrics to see if this machine can redeem itself. There is the possibility that the fabric I used was not suitable for this machine and therefore lead to most my complications. I will do some more practice and see if my opinions on this sewing machine changes. Also I didn't find the manual to be very helpful with how to use the machine. I recommend watching an online tutorial.

I started to return this item after discussing my complications with someone more experienced with sewing. They advised me to return it as it was probably defective. I wanted to give it 1 more try and avoid returning and replacing since I still wanted a little sewing machine. I purchased new needles, Singer 90/14. I had no issues with the needle breaking, bending or shifting. I did some practice stitches with the same fabric I used for the first mask and had no issues at all. I managed to make another mask and during that project the thread only came out at the start twice. I think it was because it wasn't catching fabric from the start.(My error not the machines) I never had to wrap the thread around my finger. I think my first experience was a combination of bad needles and my own lack of prep and experience.
